A Sinker Is A Stinker

The quote below is from a small 6-penny booklet titled Human Odure, published in Dublin, Ireland in 1733, and written by Dr. S., a pen name for Johnathan Swift, the author of Gulliver's Travels. Swift spent many days roaming the streets and alleys of pre-flush-toilet Dublin studying and categorizing human excrement. His classifications showed that the most satisfactory type of human stool was "the inverted top" or flat conical shape Those described below rank as the most unsatisfactory which Swift observed to "flourish about colleges, schools, and places of public eduction."

"There are two species of this tribe, the first is the inverted top, the second are those voide in small, firm, round, distinct, balls, buttons, or bullets; the second are those kind of buttons conglomerate or joined so close and compact together as to form, at first sight, one large solid excrement ... like an ear of Indian wheat, and may easily be separated, if one would undertake the work."

A Recent archeological find of Paleolithic human waste, over 100,000 years old, was rehydrated in a scientific laboratory. Its original weight was calculated to be 220 grams. Today, in rural areas of developing countries, the aveage adult defecates twice daily producing a stool weighing between 200 and 250 grams. The average adult in modern Western society gives birth to only one stool per day weighing an average of just over 100 grams. The digestive cycle for rural Africa is 36 hours and 72 hours for a young adult in Europe and the US, and as much as 14 days for some of the elderly in modern society.

Modern man is constipated and we spend billions of dollars every year on medications to relieve the stoppage- Medicl experts agree that the main reason for this is the lack of raw vegetable fiber in the modern diet. Too often the solution come in the form of medications with exotic names. Not counting doctors' prescriptions, Americans spend over 1 billion dollars a year on pills, sppositories, and potions to move their bowels. Unlike Johnathan Swift's contemporaries in 1700 Dublin, people today do not leave their stools on the street but in a bowl of water in a water closet making Swift's classifications difficult or impossible. But Dr. Dennis Burkett, English author of the book DON'T FORGET FIBER IN YOUR DIET, gives us a rule of thumb for flush-toilet stool classification;

If it floats, you're OK, If it sinks, -- well, a sinker is a stinker! ©2018:timtim.com,Tim Newlin
